Following the widely popular Nike Air Max 270 silhouette, Nike continues to expand the Air Bubble with the all new Nike Air Max 720 which is set to debut in early 2019. Nike’s latest innovation was designed by Dylan Raasch and Jesi Small of Nike Sportswear. The shoe derives its name from its 360 degree visible Air unit, a design that allows for maximum heel volume displacement horizontally and vertically providing a cradle for the foot. Similar to how Nike Air Max 97’s full-length air unit redefined the performance of Air, the Air Max 720 is likewise poised to set a whole new level of expectation for comfort.
The shoe’s design takes inspiration from nature with some colorways representing natural phenomenon such as the Northern Lights (in the “Aurora Borealis” colorway), Milky Way and lava flows. The link with the environment is further bolstered with Nike’s commitment to create sustainable shoes - the air unit in the 720s comprise more than 75% of recycled manufacturing waste delivering a style that is more sustainable for the environment.
Nike Air Max 720 vs. Nike Air Max 270
Nike Air Max 720 features the tallest Air unit in history. While the Air Max 270 measured at 32mm high, the Air Max 720 ups the ante with a 38mm Air unit. This would mean the Air Max 720 has the highest spring in comparison to any other Air Max shoe, giving you the best bounce, comfort and cushion than any other pair.
In addition, while the air unit for the 270 was limited to the heel, the air unit for the 720 now extends the entire length of the shoe.
Both styles are designed to be a lifestyle shoes for casual wear. Like the Air Max 270, the air bag for the Air Max 720 is specifically moulded for walking and everyday commute; engineered for steps rather than strides. Nike was able to achieve this by tracking the movement of commuters across the world using motion-sensor technology, providing them large volumes of data to help design a shoe that meets the needs of the everyday commuter.
